Sheep Out Back!
Be sure to take a peek at our visiting sheep out back behind the library (coming to the library the last week in June)! We found a greener (and less expensive) way to mow the field behind the library: host some sheep from Sunnyfield Farm in Peterborough. Seemed like a great fit since our Summer Reading Program theme, "G'Day for Reading," focuses on Australia. The sheep will be here for just a short time, so come by soon. And remember, ewe can check out some books as well!

Summer Reading Program Kick Off - REPTILES!
Are snakes actually slimy? Why do snapping turtles snap? And most importantly, what makes a reptile, a reptile? The best way to become acquainted with reptiles is to meet animals from the Boston Science Museum's Live Animal Center. Together we will answer these questions and many more while we learn about these incredible animals. You can also sign up for the library's Summer Reading Program at this event. June 26th - August 7th : Teen Summer Reading Contest
Read a library book, (at least 80 pages please), enter a ticket for each book you've read, then be entered in a drawing to win an iPod and other prizes! There will be weekly drawings so be sure to come in and start reading. For 5th through 12th graders.

Wild Card Game Night for Middle & High School students.
We'll supply the cards and the snacks, you supply the music and the fun!

Create flip-flops, wallets, purses, tool belts - you name it - out of duct tape. We'll provide a variety of duct tape colors and patterns, just bring your imagination. All are welcome!

The Ugly Duckling with The Little Red Wagon Theater
Join us for the Summer Reading Program Finale ~ UNH's Little Red Wagon Theater will perform their version of The Ugly Duckling. The Little Red Wagon is the longest running nonprofit, children's theatre tour in the United States. Since 1971, the wagon has performed every summer at more than 70 locations throughout New England. The Little Red Wagon, a grassroots model program for New Hampshire, was instrumental to the introduction of Theatre Education into the public school system as a supportive tool for reading and learning. Suitable for all ages. Refreshments.
And remember, you too can download free audio books (thanks to Friends of the Library for funding this subscription) from http://nh.lib.overdrive.com. If you don't have an MP3 player, you can borrow one from the library. If you don't have a high speed internet connection, you can use one of our public computers to download books onto your MP3 player. Just call ahead for a reservation.
Don't forget to be 'good to your shelf' and donate to our annual book sale. Clean out those shelves and donate your gently used books, CDs, and DVDs to the library for our sale on August 15 & 16. No text books, encyclopedias, Reader's Digest condensed books, or musty books please. THANK YOU!

For the Adults...

The Hourglass Readers present Volpone by Ben Jonson
Back by popular demand, The Hourglass Readers will present a reading of an abridged version of the play "Volpone" by Ben Jonson. Ben Jonson (1572-1637) was a contemporary of Shakespeare and wrote many plays and masques for the court of James I. His plays were mostly satires that frequently landed him in trouble with the authorities, and even earned him prison sentences. "Volpone" was first performed in 1606 at the Globe Theatre by the King's Men. It is a black comedy, set in Venice (for Londoners of the time a place both of sophistication and depravity), that focuses on the vices (particularly greed and lechery) of mankind rather than the virtues. Volpone (the fox) pretends to be dying and encourages others to visit him and bring him costly gifts, telling each one that he/she is his heir. He is aided in this endeavor by Mosca (the fly), who is a master of cunning, a supreme manipulator who ultimately uses his talents to deceive even his master, Volpone. "Volpone" is being directed by Catherine Behrens. The Hourglass Readers is dedicated to bringing classical works to modern audiences in abridged versions. Performances are always free and open to the public.

Registration begins Thursday June 26th with our kick-off event from the Boston Museum of Science, a program called REPTILES!
