Minutes from June 2011 Trustees Meeting

Hancock Library Board of Trustees
Minutes
June 22, 2011

Present: Laurie Bryan, Amy Markus, Mary Garland, Peter Ryner

The meeting began at 1:30 pm.
The Minutes of May 25, 2011 were approved.
The financial report was approved.

Amy had advised the Board that Britton has given notice. Amy was now seeking guidance from the Board as to whether or not to advertise the position, since she already has a top candidate who had previously been offered the job at the time when Britton was hired. After some discussion, the Board was unanimous in suggesting that Amy not advertise. If Amy knows who she wants to hire, if that person is qualified, and if that person was previously selected for the job through an advertised search, then to advertise now would just waste considerable time and raise false hopes to those who apply.

Amy reviewed pending July events and indicated that painting, as previously approved by the Board, would commence in the near future. Mary indicated that she would work with Amy on a final selection of colors for the interior work.

It was agreed that unless some special need arises, the Board will not meet in August, and that the next meeting would be on July 27th at 1:00 pm.

At 2:00 pm, the Board voted to go into executive session to discuss personnel matters. At 2:07 the Board voted to come out of executive session and to retain the minutes in executive session.

The meeting ended at 2:10 pm

Library Events for July 2011

Book Donations Wanted!

Book donations are now being accepted for the Old Home Day Book Sale on Friday, August 19 and Saturday, August 20. The Friends of the Hancock Town Library are looking for all kinds of books (fiction, non-fiction, cookbooks, and children’s) as well as DVDs and CDs in good condition. No textbooks, Readers Digest Condensed Books, magazines, or musty items, please. Really. Please check your books for mustiness. If they’re musty they need to go to the dump and we’d rather not be the conduit! Book donations may be dropped off at the library anytime we’re open (please don’t leave them on our doorstep) or call Nancy at 525-3531 or Amy at 525-4411 to arrange pickup.

Summer Reading Program 2011

It’s time once again for the Hancock Town Library’s Summer Reading Program for children and teens. This year’s theme is “One World, Many Stories.” We’ll have lots of fun prizes again this year so be sure to sign up at our kick-off program on Friday July 8th. The Summer Reading Program will begin July 8th and end with our final program on August 9th. The kids will have just about one month to read books so the challenge this year is to read 650 books in that amount of time. If they can reach that goal then the library director will slide down a slide into a kiddie pool filled with Jello. The child who reads the most books gets to choose what color of Jello! (By the way, note to the grown-ups, we’ll need A LOT of help making enough Jello…let us know if you’re willing to help out!)
