Library Events for December 2010

The Hourglass Readers Present: The Comedy of Errors by William Shakespeare


This classic mistaken-identity tale of identical twins is based on an ancient Roman comedy by Plautus and has been keeping people laughing now for two millennia.Catherine Behrens will direct a cast that includes Melody Actouka, Wendy Almeida, Mary Armstrong, Jazmine Carroll, Peter Eisenstadter, Sarah Ellsworth, Scott Gardner, Lori Goldring, Sandy Littell, Jonathan Ray, Eric Snare, Katrina Spenceman, and Larry Sportello. The Hourglass Readers is dedicated to performing readings of classical works in abridged format, allowing both actors and audiences to explore works not often performed. Author William Martin Joins the First Tuesday Book Club


We are delighted that William Martin, author of Back Bay, Cape Cod, Harvard Yard, and The Lost Constitution, will join our monthly book club to talk about his latest book, City of Dreams. Mr. Martin is best known for his New York Times bestselling historical fiction, but he has also written an award-winning PBS documentary and one of the cheesiest horror movies ever made. Nevertheless, he was the recipient of the 2005 New England Book Award, given to “an author whose body of work stands as a significant contribution to the culture of the region.” There are over three million copies of his books in print. Please join us for this special occasion. Free and open to all.

Shakespeare for Snowy Days

Shakespeare for Snowy Days has space for new members so if you’ve been thinking that you’d like to enjoy some Shakespeare, now is your chance! How about Shakespeare and Love? Taming of the Shrew, Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing, Antony and Cleopatra. Check your bookshelves. If you need a title, please order the Folger edition from the Toadstool in early December to give them time to fill your order around the holiday rush. Elves Workshop with Melody Zahn Russell


Join Melody on Saturday December 11th to create one-of-a-kind, handcrafted gifts. Melody will provide the materials for two or three gifts, you supply the creative genius!
