Library Events for February 2011

Winter Reading Program for the Grown-ups!

The children get their reading program in the summer, now it’s time for the grown-ups to have a turn. So here’s a little motivation to keep that winter reading going! Fill out a raffle ticket for every Hancock Town Library book you (adults over 18) check out and read during the month of February. (Books must be at least 100 pages and yes, audio books count.) The more books you read/listen to, the better your chance of winning our fabulous prizes! Prizes include gift certificates to the following local businesses: the Hancock Inn, Fiddleheads, and Dottie Cullinane’s New-Life Massage & Bodywork. Drawing will be Monday February 28th. In February of 2010, 783 copies of non-juvenile books/audio books circulated. Think we can reach 1,000 this February? Perhaps the library director’s hair will turn another color if we reach that goal!

Tuesday February 1st at 7:00 pm

Hiking the Appalachian Trail with Jeannette Baker

In April 2010, Jeannette Baker laced up her sneakers, shouldered a backpack, and embarked on a five-month hike of the Appalachian Trail, from Georgia to Maine. Along the way she encountered ever-changing terrain, weather, fellow hikers, and creatures of the wild. Please note that since Jeannette did not carry a camera with her, there are no photographs to accompany this presentation. Join us to hear stories of her adventures, including how she planned and prepared for her journey. Bring your questions! As always, free and open to all.

Thursdays February 3rd through March 10th, 2-4 pm
