Library Trustee Minutes 12.22.19

Minutes Hancock Library Board of Trustees
December 22, 2010

Present: Amy Markus, Mary Garland, Laurie Bryan,Roberta LaPlante, Peter Ryner

The minutes of the November meeting were approved.
The Treasurer's report was approved.

Director's Report
Amy reviewed a number of Library-sponsored programs that will take place in January.

Amy reported that the Library now has an e-book reader. People will be able to request one of many free books available on various internet sites. The Library will download the requested book onto the reader, which can then be taken out similar to a book or a dvd.

There was a discussion about replacing the roof. The Board of Selectmen has reviewed the Library's request that the Town provide half the cost of this replacement, with the Library providing the other half from its capital reserves. Roberta reported that the Selectmen support this request and expect it to be included as a warrant article.

The Board then discussed the bid process, and it was agreed that Amy will attempt to get requests for bids into the newspaper in time to be able to open bids at the beginning of the Library Board's January 26 meeting.

Amy pointed out that the Library now has three new computers. The Trustees agreed with her suggestion that at least one of the old computers may be retained for use by people who use the computer for simple tasks such as reading e-mail, and do not need the more powerful features of the new machines.

The Board reviewed Library volunteer policies, with a focus on patron privacy. It was agreed that existing policies and practices are for the most part adequate, although volunteers must now be at least 17 years old?

The next Board of Trustee meeting will be on January 26 at 1pm..
