Thursday's Program Cancelled

The following program has been cancelled due to a family illness. We will let you know if Dr. Pell can reschedule.

Thursday March 13th at 7:00 pm
Sustainable Development in Africa with Alice Pell, PhD

Dr. Alice Pell is Professor of Animal Science at the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and Vice Provost at Cornell University. Many of her activities are related to the Cornell International Institute for Food, Agriculture and Development (CIIFAD), Cornell`s program for poverty alleviation and sustainable rural development for developing countries, which she directs. Most of her research focuses on tropical farming systems, with an emphasis on Africa and Asia. The centerpiece of her research is an interdisciplinary project on the relationship between poverty and environmental degradation in the densely populated Kenyan highlands. Understanding how farmers respond to decreases in soil fertility resulting in reduced crop and animal productivity is an important step in poverty reduction.
